I wish there was more B-Roll, it would've really helped in a lot of areas not to just help visualize what he's talking about but also to help cover up some of those hard cuts that you have.
Also, I don't know if Lindsey needed to be in the frame when he was talking about the board. She wasn't established in the beginning, and just kinda pops up out of nowhere.
And music throughout would've helped.
But I like the way you have framed him for the interview, it's a very interesting background and you have a lot of interesting shots.
When he's describing each board it would be nice to have b-roll of the use of each one to cover the cuts. Same is true throughout the whole documentary. what does each of the different tools do? The change in audio is distracting. You makes cuts for only one word, which isn't even necessary, why?
Great video... I would just suggest a bit more B-roll because the interviews were kind of long and they had some harsh cuts. And at some points of the video I would have liked to see more background music. Other than that it was enjoyable.
I like the b-roll of the process of making a longboard. The interviews were nicely detailed, i liked the explanation of all he does to his boards. Great job!
It was a good video but, I'm getting a depressing feel from it. He doesn't seem excited about what he does. Also, their could be more combination of B roll to make better variety.
I think there was a lot of opportunity for more b-roll footage, like maybe close ups up the board, or tools in the shop. It was a little distracting having him switch between the two different interview locations, b-roll would have definitely helped with that. I wasn't too sure about the background music either. I did like the shot of showing him working and I think that helped tell the story.
The interview bits were a bit jumpy due to hard cuts so more b-roll would have helped. Also soft background music would have made the interview more fuller sounding and cover up any room noise. The framework was good for the most part and overall it was informative and effective.
Overall I thought that the documentary subject was really interesting and his story that he had to tell was really unique on how he makes the boards. But I think it could've been more effective if the order of the video was different and I thought he was framed very well throughout.
Great story, learned something new because I never really knew about longboarding. I just wish we had more b-roll.

ReplyDeleteSome of the cuts between him speaking were very rough and might have been more subtle if the B-roll had covered them.
ReplyDeletevery good choice of acoustic guitar music, perhaps more b-roll footage would have helped in the story process.
ReplyDeleteGreat video but some of the shots felt like it kept the pace slow. I would have loved to see some of his boards being used.
